The Little Red Schoolhouse  

 
The Little Red Schoolhouse was built in 1845 with classes starting in 1847. It was formerly onCrum Elbow Road at Cardinal Road in East Park.

The Town of Hyde Park Historical Society rescued this one-room school house from demolition in 1972 and moved it to the grounds of the North Park Elementary School, Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY.

Come to see how the children of years ago spent their days in school!

Open House events are held during the summer and fall.

Little Red Schoolhouse - 2018 Programs

The Little Red Schoolhouse on the grounds of North Park Elementary School is open for special tours by calling the Director, Carl Grieco, at 845-229-9029. Due to the renovation project being worked on this year, no events were scheduled this summer.

You are invited to our 1845 one-room schoolhouse Open House and to learn more about how students attended classes in the 1800's.

There is no fee, however, donations are always appreciated.
Please bring a folding chair to enjoy refreshments outdoors after the program.

Open House Events at the Little Red Schoolhouse:

We have been having work done at the LRS to preserve it for the future generations to enjoy.

There are two Open House events on the grounds of North Park Elementary School, 1593 Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY on Sunday afternoons listed below.

September 23rd - 2:00 p.m. There will be an unveiling of our new Historic sign. The program will be "A Day in a One-Room Schoolhouse" by Marilyn Grieco. Come to see how the students in grades 1-8 attended school in the mid-1800's. There will be refreshments outdoors afterwards - if you wish, please bring a folding chair. The Little Red Schoolhouse is open for tours by calling Carl and Marilyn Grieco at 845-229-9029. There is no fee, however, donations for the upkeep of the building are always appreciated.

October 21st - 2:00 p.m. Open House at the Little Red Schoolhouse. Please come to see hear the history of the Little Red Schoolhouse and see how the students attended school in the 1800's. Refreshments will be outdoors, and you are welcomed to bring a folding chair.
